MAT in Elementary Education/
ESOL Coursework

Purpose: The MAT Program in Elementary Education/ESOL is designed for those who have a bachelor’s degree in a non-elementary area from an accredited institution and wish to become certified teachers in grades kindergarten through six.

Please see the Admission Requirements section. If you need GKT, register as soon as possible for the earliest available test.

Block 1 Courses

Notes:

All these courses must be completed before advancing to
Block 2.
Some Block 1 courses are not available during the summer.

Block 4 Courses

NOTE: All courses in Blocks 1, 2, and 3 must be taken and passed prior to enrolling in Block 4. Only ESOL III and EDE 6548-II may be taken with Internship. Apply for Internship online two semester prior.

URGENT: If you need GKT, you must submit passing scores before you will be allowed to attend Internship Orientation.

In addition to coursework, Comprehensive Exam, and any other department requirement, passing scores on ALL sections of the FTCE (Florida Teacher Certification Exam) are required. The FTCE includes Professional Ed. test (PEd), Subject Area Test (SAE), and GKT. GKT can be waived if CLAST was passed prior to July 1, 2002.

-----SAE Elem. K-6 and PeD must be passed in order to graduate.

-----GKT must be passed prior to Internship Orientation.
