Prepares practitioners and teachers for the broad field of Adult Education; includes public and proprietary schools, public school and non-school settings such as community agencies, correctional institutions and business, and industry.
Admission Requirements
Applicants
must:
- Have previous experience or a strong desire to work with adults in meeting their formal or informal education/training needs.
- Undergraduate grade point average of 3.00 in upper level division undergraduate coursework or grade point average of 3.50 at the master's level.
- G.R.E. score of 500 on the Verbal section, 475 on the Quantitative section, and a 4 on the Analytical Writing section.
- Hold a Master's degree from an an accredited institution of higher education.
- Satisfy any additional academic requirements of the program specialization.
- Submit three letters of recommendation from persons knowledgeable about the applicant's academic and professional competence.
- Obtain favorable recommendations from the program faculty.
Program
Requirements
The Ed.S. degree consists of a minimum of 36 hours (includes 9 hours for the specialist thesis/project) beyond the master's degree and is flexible in its requirements. Each student's program is individually planned in consultation with a faculty program committee. Courses at the 5000 level are inappropriate; and a minimum of 15 hours should be taken at the 7000 level.
