The GPC will act for the faculty in matters related to graduate education, and advise the FPC, Dean, and Dean’s designees on policy matters, and initiate a review and propose recommendations to policies related to graduate education. The GPC will provide oversight of the quality of graduate course and program offerings. Specific duties include consideration of new courses, substantial course changes, new programs, and program changes. The GPC will provide leadership for graduate policyformation, coordination, and implementation. The Committee is responsible for the review and assessment of graduate programs and courses in the college. The GPC will makerecommendations to the Faculty Policy Council regarding action on courses, certificates, and degrees.
GPC Submission Policy for Course/Program Proposals
The GPC will receive course/program/certificate submissions anytime throughout the year but submissions received after March 1st may not be reviewed in the current academic year.
There are no reviews between April and August as the GPC does not meet in the summer.
In order to make the catalog deadline for the next Academic year, proposals must be reviewed and approved no later than the November meeting of the GPC.
The USF Graduate Council Meeting Schedule
Each department within the college will select two faculty to be members of the GPC. Members will serve two-year staggered terms, with no member serving more than two consecutive terms. Inaddition, a member of the Faculty Policy Council should serve as a member of the GPC. During its first meeting of the fall semester, the Graduate Programs Committee will select a chair and a vice-chair to lead the Committee if the chair is absent. When possible, GPC members will also serve as representatives of theGraduate Council and other appropriate university committees. Collegerepresentatives for Graduate Council who are not members of the GPC will serve as non-voting ex officio members.
