Gary Goff Named President of Roane State Community College
The Tennessee Board of Regents announced Friday, July 29, 2005 that Dr. Gary Goff had been appointed as the President of Roane State Community College effective August 19, 2005.
Goff is a 2004 graduate of USF’s College of Education, earning his doctorate in Educational Leadership in an astounding 38 months. The first ever Community College President to emerge from COEDU, Goff spent the past five years with Hillsborough Community College where Goff is presently Vice President for Administration and Chief Financial Officer, a position he has held since 2003. Prior to holding the office of VP, he served three years as academic dean at Hillsborough Community College.
Goff is also the former Dean of the Armed Forces Staff College of the National Defense University and is a retired colonel with the United States Army. Goff ended his 30-year career with the Army at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, where he had been stationed since 1997. Originally from East Tennessee, Goff holds also a bachelor’s degree in political science from Middle Tennessee State University and a master’s in business administration from Southwest Missouri State University in addition to his recent doctorate.
In accepting the position, Goff said, “I am eagerly looking forward to new challenges as president of Roane State, and to interacting with the community, faculty, staff, and students.” Roane State Community College is located in Harriman, TN. It has approximately 29,000 students on nine campuses and centers. Roane was founded in 1971 and is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
