College of Education Strategic Planning Committee

Committee Update:  As of June 2014

The Strategic Planning Committee began meeting on March 4, 2014 and continues its work to develop a strategic plan for the College of Education and to reaffirm the position of the College within the broader context of the University of South Florida.

The first task for the committee was to review the USF Strategic Plan and discuss how the goals of this plan fit with the unique nature of the COE.  Our intention is to incorporate the four goals of the University plan in the COE strategic plan. The next task was to locate and examine example strategic plans from peer and aspirational universities.  These example plans were posted on our Canvas site for committee members to review and to generate discussion regarding content and organization.  The committee chose sections of several different plans to use as models for development.

Our committee then scheduled a series of meetings with members of the COE who could provide us with insight into the four goal areas of the USF Strategic Plan and how we might tailor these to the specific future needs of our College.  A link to the USF Strategic Plan is provided below along with a listing of the four main goals:

Goal One:  Well-educated and highly skilled global citizens through our continuing commitment to student success (meeting to be held in late summer)

Goal Two:  High-impact research and innovation to change lives, improve health, and foster sustainable development and positive societal change (meeting held with Dr. Gladis Kersaint)

Goal Three:  A highly effective, major economic engine, creating new partnerships to build a strong sustainable future for Florida in the global economy (meeting held with Dr. Diane Hoppey and Dr. Michael Stewart)

Goal Four:  Sound financial management to establish a strong and sustainable economic base in support of USF’s continued academic advancement (meeting held with Mr. Robert Lugo)

Our final meeting of the spring semester was held on May 2, 2014.  During this meeting the committee wrote the initial draft of Goal Area 3 (Partnerships) for the COE Strategic Plan.  Our committee will meet again in August to continue drafting the plan, with the intent of being able to share the full draft with faculty during the fall 2014 semester for feedback and further revision.
