Lesson Plan Modification

Description:  Modified lesson plan will include:

1. An assessment component that is well constructed and assesses the essential forms of knowledge (AP1);

2. ESOL strategies that are appropriate for all the language proficiency levels (AP5); and

3. Instructional activities that have proven successful in engaging and motivating students at appropriate developmental levels (AP7).

Criterion #1: Assessment

Description:  The assessment component of the lesson plan is well constructed and assesses the essential forms of knowledge. AP1

Description

1=Poor

The lesson plan does not have an assessment component.

2=Limited

The assessment component is poorly constructed and does not assess the essential forms of knowledge.

3=Adequate

The assessment component is well constructed and adequately assesses the essential forms of knowledge.

4=Proficient

The assessment component is very well constructed and effectively assesses the essential forms of knowledge.

5=Outstanding

The assessment component is extremely well constructed and very effectively assesses knowledge at various levels.

Criterion #2: Diversity/ESOL Strategies

 

Description: Students will develop a lesson plan that includes ESOL strategies that are appropriate for all the language proficiency levels. AP5

 

Score

Description

1=Poor

There are no ESOL strategies in the lesson plan.

2=Limited

ESOL strategies are present, minimally integrated into the lesson, and are not appropriate for all the language levels.

3=Adequate

1-2 ESOL strategies are present in the lesson plan for all the language levels.

4=Proficient

A variety of ESOL strategies are present in the lesson plan and appropriate for all the language levels.

5=Outstanding

The lesson plan has been effectively infused with numerous ESOL strategies that are appropriate for all the language proficiency levels.

Criterion #3: Human Development & Learning

Description:  Students will develop a lesson plan that includes instructional activities that have proven successful in engaging and motivating students at appropriate developmental levels. AP7

1=Poor

Lesson plan does not include instructional activities.

2=Limited

Lesson plan includes few instructional activities that have a minimal effect in engaging and motivating students at appropriate developmental levels.

3=Adequate

Lesson plan includes 1-2 instructional activities that have proven successful in engaging and motivating students at appropriate developmental levels.

4=Proficient

Lesson plan includes 3-4 activities that have proven successful in engaging and motivating students at appropriate developmental levels.

5=Outstanding

Lesson plan is infused with numerous activities that have proven successful in engaging and motivating students at appropriate developmental levels.

 

Case Study

 

Description:  Students will design an instructional plan for a case study student that reflects the information learned throughout the course:  Linguistic ability, Social/cultural situations; Academic abilities; Learning styles; and Parent involvement.  The case study will include:

 

1. A plan for promoting and enhancing critical, creative, and evaluative thinking skills in the student’s individual instructional plan related to the needs of the student (AP4);

2. Effective communicative ESOL strategies in the student’s individualize instructional plan to help the student understand the concepts being taught (AP5); and

3. A plan for teacher involvement in the student’s individual instructional plan related to the cultural and linguistic needs of the student (AP11).

 

Criterion #1: Critical Thinking

Description: Students will develop a plan for promoting and enhancing critical, creative, and evaluative thinking skills in the student’s individual instructional plan related to the needs of the case study student. (AP4)

Description

1=Poor

There is no plan for promoting and enhancing critical, creative, and evaluative thinking skills related to the needs of the student.

2=Limited

The plan for promoting and enhancing critical, creative, and evaluative thinking skills minimally relates to the needs of the student.

3=Adequate

The plan for promoting and enhancing critical, creative, and evaluative thinking skills relates to the needs of the student.

4=Proficient

The plan for promoting and enhancing critical, creative, and evaluative thinking skills relates well to the needs of the student, details or examples are provided.

5=Outstanding

The plan for promoting and enhancing critical, creative, and evaluative thinking capabilities relates exceptianally to the needs of the student, numerous supporting details or examples provided.

 

Criterion #2: ESOL Strategies/Diversity

Description: Students will infuse effective communicative ESOL strategies in the student’s individualize instructional plan to help the case study student understand the concepts being taught. (AP5)

Description

1=Poor

No ESOL strategies are present in the student’s individualize instructional plan.

2=Limited

ESOL strategies infused in the student’s individualize instructional plan are minimally relevant to the student’s needs.

3=Adequate

A few effective communicative ESOL strategies are infused in the student’s individualize instructional plan to help the student understand the concepts being taught.

4=Proficient

Many effective communicative ESOL strategies are infused in the student’s individualize instructional plan to help the student understand the concepts being taught, with supporting details or examples provided.

5=Outstanding

Many exceptional communicative ESOL strategies are infused in the student’s individualize instructional plan to help the student understand the concepts being taught, with numerous supporting details or examples provided.


Criterion #3: Role of the Teacher

Description:  Students will develop a plan for teacher involvement in the student’s individual instructional plan related to the cultural and linguistic needs of the case study student. (AP11)

Description

1=Poor

There is no plan for teacher involvement in the student’s individual instructional plan.

2=Limited

The plan for teacher involvement minimally relates to the cultural and linguistic needs of the student.

3=Adequate

The plan for teacher involvement relates to the cultural and linguistic needs of the student.

4=Proficient

The plan for teacher involvement relates well to the cultural and linguistic needs of the student, with details or examples provided.

5=Outstanding

The plan for teacher involvement relates exceptionally well to the cultural and linguistic needs of the student, with numerous supporting details or examples provided.
