Improving Web-Based Survey Research Data Collection

James A. White, Lou M. Carey, & Kathleen Dailey

The purpose of this page is to demonstrate the efficient online collection of survey data and to provide a model that may be adapted by others to suit their purposes. JavaScript is used to perform data validation on the client and Perl to process and aggregate the data in text format on the server. A second Perl program is used to allow the researcher to access the data file through the browser. These data may then easily be copied and pasted into other applications such as SAS, Excel, etc.
