Dr. Ann E. Barron

 



Professional Experience

Dr. Ann Barron is a Professor of Instructional Technology in the College of Education at the University of South Florida (USF), Tampa, Florida. She has been with USF since 1991, and teaches graduate-level courses in multimedia, instructional design, web design, and telecommunications. 

She was the recipient of the President's Award for Excellence in 2003, the Online Teaching Award in 2002, and the Jerome Krivanek Distinguished Teaching Award in 2000.  In 1996, she received the USF Professor of the Year Award (sponsored by the Alumni Association) for outstanding teaching, research, and service. She received the Teaching Incentive Program Award in both 1995 and 1998.

Dr. Barron is listed in Who's Who in Instructional Technology. An online interview that focuses on her research is available in the IT Research Leader's section of the InTRO Website.

Dr. Barron was the Executive Director of the Florida Center for Instructional Technology from 1995-2000 and is currently a member of the FCIT Board of Directors.  Working with the Center, she has designed and developed numerous instructional materials for technology. Her products include:

Dr. Barron also has extensive experience in the design, development, and evaluation of interactive courseware in industry and military environments. Her work with IBM Enterprise Business Services (2000 - Present), Interactive Media Corporation (1990 - 2000), and Martin Marietta Missiles Group (1988 - 1990) involves the design and development of multimedia and Web-based training for commercial and government customers.

During  the 1990-1991 academic year, Ann was a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Central Florida, where she taught graduate level courses in Instructional Technology and served as the Associate Director of the UCF/DOE Instructional Technology Resource Center. She also has teaching experience in middle school mathematics and physical education in the Antilles Consolidated School System in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Oswego Middle School in Oswego, Illinois.

She serves on the editorial boards of The Educational Forum, the Journal of Educational Computing Research, Computers in Human Behavior, the Journal of Computing in Higher Education, and the Journal of Educational Multimedia and Hypermedia.


Personal Information

Dr. Barron has traveled extensively and collects dolls in native costume whenever possible.  Her office now displays over 300 miniatures from all over the world.
