Ed.S. Admissions

In order to pursue the Ed.S., you must be admitted to the department and the Graduate School of University of South Florida. To do so, follow these steps:

Application for Admission

After completing the application, send it, along with a $30 application fee, to the Graduate Admissions Office, FAO 174, University of South Florida, 4202 East Fowler Avenue, Tampa, FL 33620-6900. Original transcripts, GRE scores (if applicable), and other supporting documentation must be sent to the same office. For admission to the program, the application packet must include:

  • Two official transcripts from every institution of postsecondary education attended, undergraduate and graduate. (USF graduates are exempt from this requirement.)
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Scores for students whose native language is not English. A minimum score of 550 is required.
The Ed.S. that focuses on Instructional Technology falls under the "umbrella" of Curriculum and Instruction.  When you apply, be sure to indicate that you are seeking an Ed.S. with a Major in Curriculum and Instruction and a Concentration in Instructional Technology.

After you are admitted, the faculty in the Instructional Technology will structure your program of study and your committee (see Basic Timeline).  If you have questions about your application, the courses, or the program, contact Dr. Ann Barron in the Instructional Technology program
(phone 813-974-1631).

Additional Requirements

After you have submitted your application to the Graduate Admissions Office, send an e-mail message to Dr. Ann Barron with a short statement of your personal and professional goals.  Include information related to your basic technology competencies (general knowledge of instructional technology -- word processing, spreadsheets and databases). In addition, be sure that two letters of recommendation are sent (or e-mailed) to Dr. Barron.  You do not need to use a specific format for these letters of recommendation.

If you have questions regarding the status of your application, you can call USF Graduate Admissions at 813-974-8800.

After you receive official notification of your admission, contact Dr. Barron about establishing a committee and a program of study. Remember, after you are admitted, you must be continuously enrolled, which means completing a minimum of 2 hours of graduate credit for at least one term (Fall, Spring, or Summer) each year. A graduate student who does not maintain continuous enrollment as defined above is automatically dropped from the system and must apply for re-instatement of admission by contacting the Graduate Program Director. See the Basic Timeline for more information.

Also, please note that, effective, Fall 2007, coursework used to fulfill degree requirements for the Ed.S. degree can be no older than 5 years at the time of graduation.

Financial Aid

You may be eligible for various types of financial aid -- see the Instructional Technology Financial Aid page and the USF Financial Aid website.  In addition, Graduate Assistantships are awarded by the Florida Center for Instructional Technology and the Department of Secondary Education.  These assistantships require research, teaching, or administrative service totaling approximately 20 hours per week. Stipends for these appointments are in the $7000 - $10,000 range for two semesters. Tuition waivers may also be available to graduate students, providing for the forgiveness of either in-state or out-of-state fees. These waivers may be combined with an assistantship or awarded separately.
