Educational
Specialist Admissions
In
order to pursue the Ed.S., you must be admitted
to the department and the Graduate School of University of South
Florida. To do so, follow these steps:
Apply online or obtain
a Graduate Application from the Office of Graduate Advising in the
College of Education, EDU 312, University of South Florida, Tampa, FL
33620-5650. Phone: 813-974-3406. (To apply online, see the Graduate
Studies.)
After completing
the application, send it, along with a $30 application fee,
to the Graduate Admissions Office, FAO 174, University of South
Florida, 4202 East Fowler Avenue, Tampa, FL 33620-6900. Original
transcripts, GRE scores (if applicable), and other supporting
documentation must be
sent to the same office. For admission to the program, the application
packet must include:
- Two
official transcripts from every institution of postsecondary education
attended, undergraduate and graduate. (USF graduates are exempt from
this requirement.)
- Test
of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Scores for students whose
native language is not English. A minimum score of 550 is required.
The
Ed.S. that focuses on Instructional Technology falls under the
"umbrella" of Curriculum and Instruction. When you apply, be
sure to indicate that you are seeking an Ed.S. with a Major
in Curriculum and Instruction and a Concentration
in Instructional Technology.
After you are admitted, the faculty in the Instructional Technology
will structure your program of study and your committee (see Basic

In
order to be admitted to the program, you must have the following
minimum qualifications:
- Meet
all general requirements for the College of Education.
- A
Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
(Can be in any field of study.)
- Provide
two favorable academic and professional recommendations (submitted to
the program coordinator)
- In
addition the applicant must:
- Have
a graduate degree from a regionally accredited institution, or
international equivalent, with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
OR
- Have
successfully completed a graduate certificate in instructional
technology with a grade point average of 3.5 or better AND
have an undergraduate grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0
scale as an upper division undergraduate student, or the international
equivalent.
OR
- Submit
official GRE scores (sealed in an envelope provided by Educational
Testing Service or recorded on official transcript) with the following
minimums: V:430, Q: 570, and AW:4.
In addition to general requirements, all
applicants for this program must demonstrate knowledge of word
processing, spreadsheets, databases, and telecommunications.

After you have submitted your application to the
Graduate Admissions Office, send an e-mail message to Dr. Ann Barron
with a short statement of your personal and professional
goals. Include information related to your basic technology competencies (general knowledge of instructional technology -- word
processing, spreadsheets and databases). In addition, be sure that two
letters of recommendation are sent (or e-mailed) to Dr. Barron. You do not
need to use a specific format for these letters of recommendation.

After you receive official notification of your
admission, contact Dr.
Barron about establishing a committee and a program of study.
Remember, after you are admitted, you must be
continuously enrolled , which means completing a
minimum of 2 hours of graduate credit for at least one term (Fall,
Spring, or Summer) each year. A graduate student who does not maintain
continuous enrollment as defined above is automatically dropped from
the system and must apply for re-instatement of admission by contacting
the Graduate Program Director. See the Basic

Also, please note
that, effective, Fall 2007, coursework used to fulfill degree
requirements for the Ed.S. degree can be no older than 5 years
at the time of graduation.

You may be eligible for various types of financial
aid -- see the Instructional
Technology Financial Aid page
and the USF Financial
Aid website.
In addition, Graduate Assistantships are awarded by the Florida Center
for Instructional Technology and the Department of Secondary
Education. These assistantships require research, teaching,
or administrative service totaling approximately 20 hours per week.
Stipends for these appointments are in the $7000 - $10,000 range for
two semesters. Tuition waivers may also be available to graduate
students, providing for the forgiveness of either in-state or
out-of-state fees. These waivers may be combined with an assistantship
or awarded separately.
