Education Specialist Degree
![]() The Ed.S. in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Instructional Technology is 36 semester hours in length. This program is designed to prepare students for leadership in technology related positions and augment the skills of practicing professionals. Courses include an array of topics including instructional design, distance learning, web programming, instructional graphics, and project management. An Ed.S. project/thesis is required. This degree program can be completed online (except for the defenses for the Ed.S. project). Many of the courses are also available on campus. The Ed.S. degree at USF is designed as a terminal, post-master's degree. It is primarily recognized in academic environments, such as K-12 schools. Although some courses taken in the Ed.S. program could count towards a subsequent Ph.D. or Ed.D. degree (depending on the decision of the doctoral advising committee), it is recommended that students decide to pursue either the Ed.S. or the Ph.D., based on their career goals.
