Dean of the College of Education

The University of South Florida, founded in 1956, is a public research university serving over 39,000 students in eleven colleges on campuses in Tampa, Lakeland, St. Petersburg, and Sarasota-Manatee. USF, a Carnegie-designated Doctoral/Research University-Extensive, is also classified as a Research I institution in the State of Florida. This institution has more than 2,000 faculty and offers baccalaureate degrees in 79 fields, 89 master's and specialist programs, 25 doctoral programs, and the doctor of medicine degree.

Located in an urban setting, the College of Education at the University of South Florida has a rich diversity of academic and research programs, faculty and students. The College is one of the largest in the United States with 145 faculty members across four campuses and approximately 4800 students in its undergraduate and graduate programs within eight academic departments. The College received state and NCATE reaccreditations in 2000. The College also includes several distinguished Institutes and Centers that are supported by both private and public funds. External funding to the College exceeded $19 million in 2001. The College has strong partnerships with numerous school districts and Professional Development Schools. One PDS, Pizzo Elementary, is located on the Tampa campus. Also, USF is the first public university in the country to establish its own charter school.

POSITION AND QUALIFICATIONS: The Dean of the College of Education will report to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. As the chief academic officer of the College, the Dean is directly responsible for overseeing all academic, administrative and fiscal operations.

Minimum qualifications include an earned doctorate appropriate for appointment as a tenured full professor in an academic department in the College of Education, an established record of scholarship, and significant administrative experience in an appropriate educational setting. Preferred candidates should possess outstanding academic leadership skills and a commitment to the highest standards of undergraduate, graduate and professional education and research. Further, they should possess a strong and demonstrated commitment to diversity; a commitment to engagement with the schools and community via research and outreach; experience in fundraising and fiscal and personnel management; and outstanding organizational, interpersonal and advocacy skills, including communication with internal and external groups.
