Engaging Cross-cultural Leadership in Preparation for
Special Education
Projecct ECLIPSE

Project ECLIPSE is a four-year project designed to recruit and prepare
a cross-cultural cohort of ethnic minority and majority scholars for
careers as urban special education researchers and teacher-educators.
Six scholars representing African American, Hispanic/Latino, Native
American, Asian, and European American cultural backgrounds will be
recruited as a learning community committed to teacher education and
research that responds to the needs of culturally and linguistically
diverse children, youth, and their families. Apply to the University
of South Florida's Doctoral Program in Urban Special Education and
become an ECLIPSE Scholar. Project ECLIPSE participants will benefit
from the following project supports:
- Revised doctoral program with an emphasis on urban special education
- Cross-cultural collaborative learning community membership
- Competitive research fellowships
- Collaborative research and mentoring seminars
- Professional development for careers in the Academy
- Tiered formal and informal mentorship experiences
- State of the art technology to expand university classroom boundaries
- Applied on-site urban research experiences
