I am an applied behavioral analyist who has been
using behavioral methods in my work with individuals
with Autism with notable success for a number of
years in a group home setting (less precise, less
intense than classical Lovaas method, but with
significant success). I am beginning to provide
services to the community through paraprofessionals
in the Greensboro, Winston-Salem area in North
Carolina. While I use Behavior Analysis with my clients
I also find merit with the TEAACH philosophy of
interference with the antecedent when dealing
with maladaptive behaviors, and the creation of
new and more adaptive routines. I am aware of
BIG controversy between the two schools of
thought, but when BOTH are considered and used
in a practical way, I find that they fit together
seamlessly, and without ideological difficulties.
Would be interested in other comments from
people who have applied either or both in a
community or group home setting.

Isn't the internet wonderful!? Am interested in a
field that that not only examines brain function on
behavior but also incorporates nutrition, culture,
belief systems, and hormonal responses. Is there
a field that covers all that? And can one with
little education and almost 40, realistically pursue
such a career? Thanks for the page!

I am presently waiting to take the certification test in June.
I am also presently working for Devereux of Florida, which is a treatment

unit, which is the unit which deals with children who also have developement
disabilities. The CDD unit's treatment is based on a behavioral analysis approach
to treatment.
I am intrested in any information on behavior analysis work being done
in Florida and other states. I am also intrested in possible job openings and information for
a C.B.A. in Florida and other states. I would also be intrested in any information on

I am an adult with autism, researching the condition (obsessively), and this is another useful and interesting site. I've only just got 'on-line' (last week) and I'm overwhelmed by the mass of information on autism on the internet. Paradise!
I write and draw comic-strips, as well as being an all-round artist. I'm soon to be published--a short story (as a beginning) about my life to be published in Harvey Pekar's "American Splendor" comic book...as far as I know, cartoonists with autism are pretty rare, but I like to be different!
Anyone who's interested in comics, autism, or both, is welcome to email me. Fellow artists especially. Thanks.

Compliments on a most informative website. As both
a professional member of the Florida Association
for Behavior Analysis, and the mother of a seven
year old son with autism...I cannot begin to
express how the effective use of behavior analysis
has changed our lives. My son surprises us every
day with his progress in a fully mainstream
environment with no support, within the Palm Beach
County school system. He is on grade-level, and we
will be seeking an academic track towards a
regular education degree.
There is no magic involved here. Just hard work
and dedication towards the principles of applied
behavior analysis- both in the home and in the
classroom. And the understanding that this powerful
technology takes time, skill, and patience. But
oh what a difference it makes!
We did not do Lovaas. We did not do a home program.
We did not go from therapist to therapist. We just
used a common sense approach, and were lucky
enough to find good practitioners along the way
to guide us. Behavior Analysts.
I welcome all parents such as myself, to join
FABA. I am proud to be a member of this
organization, and feel they have much to offer
to parents and educators. They have opened
membership to these groups...and have arranged
tracks for their annual conference which will be
of specific interest to them. I urge you to visit
the FABA website, you'll be glad you did!
May the profession live long and prosper. The
force is with you. Peace

The Army as you could imagine doesn't alot us any money for behavioral analysis. So any research that gets done is done by myself without funding from the government. We do alot of Interviewing, questioning, and interrogations of both civilians and prisioners of war. The little amount of knowlege that I have gathered about human behavioral symptoms analysis has proved to be the single most useful tool in gathering intelligence. I'm the market of saving lives. The more I know about how people think and react both physicaly and verbally to questioning the more lives I can save. So i'm asking you, the doctors, the teachers, the students, for ANY knowlege of behavioral analysis that could help. I look forward to talking to all of you!

Need to learn more about two specific behaviors: 1.
Psychosumatic behavior and 2. Sympathetic behaviors
(taking on pain of others). I am dealing with these
behaviors in a seventeen year old mentally retarded
female. She believes her pain is real and these behaviors
seem to be triggered when she is helping other peers
in wheel chairs. Any suggestions where to find more
information on this? PS.We have been working with an MD and
a psychologist for the last year, and have just
began to notice these new behaviors.

Hello,we are the parents of the coolest little 8 year old autistic boy in the world.Recently bought this computer in hopes of the most logical choice for information, and options,to enable us the best chance possible,of giving our son every chance to accell, and to do this correctly, because as we all know, the avenues you travel ,and choices you make, are the most important things. And without proven, or documented information to make these decisions ,you could do more harm, than good. That certainly wont work here..I can already see the choice of the internet, was a wize one,as you can't believe how far weve got tonite. And to all you parents with autistic children,"GOD BLESS YOU ALL".It takes special parents to have special children,so this should be an hohor: Because God chose all of us,and that in itself must mean were pretty awsome parents!!!!
