MAT in Middle Grades Mathematics Program (Major Code: TMA).
This program is designed for individuals with a bachelor's degree in a a field other than education who wish to become a certified teacher in middle grades mathematics. The MAT:
Is faster than taking a second undergraduate degree.
Results in higher pay and transferability of your certificate to over 30 other states. (This is not necessarily true of state direct certification or a school district based training certification program.)
Can be completed while individuals continue to teach on a temporary certificate.
Is appropriate for individuals who hold certification in elementary education who seek certification in middle grades mathematics.
Additionally, there are forgivable loans available to pay for the mathematics and mathematics education courses.
Admissions
Requirements
The student must provide satisfactory evidence of:
An earned minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale average or better in all work attempted while registered as an upper division student (usually last two years of coursework) working for a baccalaureate degree from any college of university accredited by a regional accrediting association.
Having met one of the following requirement:
Have passed the Florida Subject Exam Mathematics 5 - 9 (Click the link for information about this exam)
OR
Have completed at least 18 credit hours in mathematics at the level of college algebra.

Additionally, we may require individual with limited experiences working with students to observe in a middle grades school environment for 3 - 4 weeks prior to being fully admitted in the program.
