Stacey Jones, M.Ed., is currently a second year LASER Scholar, pursuing a doctoral deree at the University of South Florida in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in urban special education. She is also seeking to obtain certification and licensure in higher education administration. Ms. Jones earned her Bachelor's degree from Virginia Union University and in 1997 she earned her Master's degree from James Madison University. At the University of South Florida, Ms. Jones has been a teaching assistance and co-teacher in classes on both the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition, Ms. Jones has applied action research in an urban, high-poverty elementary school in Tampa, Florida.

Ms. Jones' current research interests include working with students with disabilities and providing them with alternatives for successful educational outcomes in postsecondary settings. She is particularly interested in researching interventions and strategies that will improve academic outcomes for students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Her experiences prior to entering the doctoral program have driven her research interests. Serving as Associate Athletic Director for Compliance at Virginia Union University, she worked closely with student athletes in the area of academic supports. Additionally, Ms. Jones has been a special education teacher at the elementary and middle school levels, working with students with learning disabilities, mental retardation, and emotional and behavioral disorders.

Ms. Jones was recently awarded the Cathy Lynne Richardson Endowed Doctoral Scholarship by the department of special education at the University of South Florida based on her commitment to the education of individuals with disabilities.
