Karen
Harris, M.S. CCC-SLP, received her Bachelor's of Science
degree at the University of Miami with a dual major
in psychology and speech communication. She subsequently
earned her Master of Science degree from now Nova Southeastern
University in fall 1992.
As
a speech and language pathologist licensed in Florida
and Georgia, she holds the coveted Certificate of Clinical
Competence from the American Speech, Language, and Hearing
Association (ASHA). She has been a practitioner in both
public school and clinical settings.
Ms.
Marshall is currently a second year doctoral student
in the department of Special Education at the University
of South Florida. She was awarded the Cathy Lynne Richardson
Fellowship for her excellence in serving the diverse
needs of students with disabilities. She is currently
a LASER doctoral scholar with research foci in multicultural
and urban education issues. She plans to conduct a pilot
study on research related to culturally relevant practices
in the context of literacy instruction in fall 2002.
Ms.
Marshall served as a teaching assistant and co-taught
undergraduate special education courses. She also co-facilitated
a four-part series of professional development seminars
for undergraduate preservice teachers. Ms. Marshall
aspires to become a teacher educator and researcher
upon obtaining of her doctor of philosophy degree in
curriculum and instruction.
