Investigating
the Efficacy of Fast-Track Programs Leading to
Certification in Special Education
Presenters will share information about a graduate fast
track program offered at a Historically Black University
(HBCU), Xavier University of LA that leads to teacher
certification in special education. The objective of
the program is to address critical teacher shortages,
especially among African-Americans, by offering relevant
coursework that will prepare teachers to meet the challenge
of working in urban school districts. The presenters
are researching the efficacy of the fast track program
in training highly qualified professionals in this shortage
area. Results of the implementation of the program’s
first three years and the longitudinal research study
addressing these issues begun this year will be disseminated. |
